About Trailnet
While biking, walking and active living represent our most visible events, Trailnet has a strong focus on these areas:
-
Programs:
Trailnet provides biking, hiking, walking and conservation events and community education to diverse groups of people looking to lead healthy, active lives. Hallmark programs include the Bicycle Fun Club, Safe Routes to School and Community Bike Rides including the Literary Ride in the Central West End, the Tour de Plants ride, and Environmental Justice Rides. -
Community Planning:
Trailnet helps municipalities design streets, sidewalks and trails where people can walk and bike safely to local destinations within and throughout their community. Trailnet is one of eleven regional partners developing a sustainability plan linking agencies, services and resources across the bi-state area. -
Policy Initiatives:
Trailnet's Healthy, Active and Vibrant Communities initiative, created in partnership with the Missouri Foundation for Health, provides opportunities and access to healthy active living for residents of urban, rural, and suburban communities.

-
Opportunities for individual and group recreation and exercise will be abundant.
-
Municipalities and developers will give priority to making neighborhoods walkable and bikeable and to connecting with the broader network of transportation corridors.
-
Residents will experience that walking and biking are easy, safe and desirable alternatives to driving a car.
-
Regional planners and health officials will welcome and encourage new opportunities to incorporate active living strategies for people of all ages and abilities.
-
-
As the region’s acknowledged leading advocate for active living, Trailnet will drive these changes in both the region’s mindset and its policy development. Trailnet will be at the planning table from conception to design and programming. It will be a strong and effective advocate at the municipal, regional, state and federal levels. It will create partnerships and social networks to help educate and inform residents about active living options and to develop plans and programs that provide new opportunities for people to embrace a more active lifestyle.

As a result of Trailnet’s efforts, the St. Louis region will be safer, healthier and more active, and a model for others.
