City of St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is scheduled to present a Bike To Work Day proclamation at 7:30 a.m at the Missouri History Museum followed by other speakers. Companion Café locations will be offering a 10% discount for those who come through the line with their helmets on Bike To Work Day! FREE secure bike parking and gear storage is being hosted by volunteers of the AIA-St. Louis Chapter with parking held at 305 N. Broadway across from the Marquette YMCA in downtown St. Louis. | description: | The Mary Meachum Freedom Crossing Celebration commemorates the 153rd anniversary of the attempted escape by a small group of freedom seekers, including Mary Meachum, to cross the Mississippi River at St. Louis, to reach safety in Illinois. The Meachum site is the first nationally recognized Underground Railroad site in the state of Missouri. The program includes a fully costumed re-enactment at 3:00 p.m. of the original freedom crossing with the Mississippi River as the natural backdrop.
