Community Rides
Trailnet community rides center on encouraging and enabling people of all ages and abilities to get outside and get active. The focus is fun, safety, appreciation of our communities, and spreading the love of bicycling! If you are seeking a family-friendly bicycle ride in a safe and encouraging environment, these rides are for you.
HYDRATE AND PREPARE
Being hydrated prior to all Trailnet events is essential. Please bring water to the ride and have the appropriate water bottle and hardware on your bicycle.

Bicycle and Art Ride
Saturday, April 13

Route: 9.5 miles on city streets and trails
Features: Experience art and history dressed in your finest knickers and caps for a St. Louis Tweed Ride. The ride begins at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum and will make stops at the Saint Louis Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, and the World Chess Hall of Fame. Come prepared to view art, make art, and enjoy English inspired treats.
Fees: FREE. Commemorative t-shirts $5 while supplies last. Gift shops at all stops will be open for business.

Route: 6 miles on Forest Park trails
Features: Save the planet and use pedal power as your mode of transportation at this tour celebrating Earth Day. Join the naturalist-led group tour to explore some of the natural ecosystems of Forest Park. Trailnet will offer free helmet fittings and helmets for the first 50 youth in need of a helmet. Route maps provided at registration. After the ride, enjoy the Earth Day Festival in Forest Park where you'll learn about sustainable products and services offered by local businesses and organizations, meet area non-profits that share the mission of Earth Day, and enjoy local music, performance art, and diverse cuisine. Trailnet will be offering complimentary bike valet at the main stage and transportation village.

Bicycle and Coffee Ride

Route: 10 miles on city streets
Features: Calling all coffee lovers – this ride is for you! We will tour four very different coffee establishments including a large-scale coffee roaster and distributor, a small coffee roaster and wholesaler, and a gourmet coffee house. Riders will learn about the history of coffee, the joys and challenges of running a coffee related enterprise, and how to brew a great tasting cup of joe. Tasting is highly encouraged.

Features: For 37 years, the Kirkwood Farmers’ Market has been a cornerstone of the community as a place to eat, shop, and gather with friends. Trailnet will be doing free helmet fittings for kids before a fun-filled, family friendly twilight ride through Kirkwood, beginning and ending at the Kirkwood Farmers’ Market. After the ride, join us at Station Plaza for a performance by Babaloo Music & Fun beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Features: This tour will highlight local efforts that increase access to fresh, affordable food in urban neighborhoods; be prepared to experience some of the greatest greens grown in St. Louis. Riders will explore historic neighborhoods and tour community gardens.

Route: 15 miles on city streets
Features: Cahokia was the largest prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico and a religious, political, economic, and cultural center. This group ride includes stops for historic interpretation and closely follows the route taken by the people of this prehistoric civilization as they traveled between “mound cities” and across the Mississippi River. Cahokia Mounds was designated a World Heritage Site in 1982.

Features: Founded in 1767, the town of Carondelet, now one of St. Louis’s most historic neighborhoods, has a remarkable collection of stone houses built in the mid-19th century. Our ride will visit these unique structures as well as other historic buildings in this “city within a city.”

Features: In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, St. Louis’s Central West End and a few blocks to the north were home to a surprisingly large number of writers who became part of the American literary tradition. This ride includes visits to select writers’ former homes for short readings of their work, and historic interpretation on a route through architecturally fascinating neighborhoods.

Features: This ride explores two of St. Louis' most fascinating and historic neighborhoods, LaSalle Park and Soulard. Home to some of the Midwest's most interesting and unique architecture, both of these 19th century neighborhoods retain the imprint of the various ethnic and religious groups that have lived and worked there. Both are also case studies in the effects of highway construction on the traditional city as well as models of late 20th century historic preservation and urban redevelopment.

Features: Several urban microbreweries are featured on this tour, each of which has its own unique character. Learn what it takes to craft a great brew from some of St. Louis’s finest microbreweries. Tastings and tours will be provided at many of the stops. Must be 21 to drink.

Features: This family friendly ride is perfect for anyone interested in learning more about city farming and supporting the local food movement. We’ll stop at four farms, learn about their histories and how urban farming is taking hold in St. Louis. Riders can also sign up for CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares, a pledge to support a farm operation and receive shareholder benefits. The ride will end at the Tower Grove Farmers’ Market, where you can purchase locally grown, raised, and prepared food.

Features: This ride explores the historic neighborhoods north of Crown Candy Kitchen, including Hyde Park, College HIll, Holly Place, and O'Fallon Park. The tour will visit all-too-frequently ignored St. Louis landmarks including historic water towers, architecturally significant churches, the "Gold Coast" of the northside, a beautiful public park, the oldest house in the City, and the former locations of a renowned brewery, a German social and athletic club, and a major contributor to America's first nuclear weapons program.
