The Confluence reconnects people to our Great Rivers through a 200 square mile network of conservation, heritage and recreation attractions being developed along the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois Rivers in the heart of our bi-state St. Louis region. The project emphasizes open space conservation, habitat restoration, and development of a linked system of multi-use trails, recreation facilities, historic and heritage sites, visitor education and service centers, public art and interpretation from the Arch to St. Charles, Missouri and Grafton, Illinois.

A diverse group of private organizations and public agencies have collaborated on this long-term development program since 1997. These include a core group of non-profit partner organizations (see Partners) as well as key federal, state and local government agencies and civic leadership including, East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Great Rivers Greenway District, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, Metro-East Park & Recreation District, Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, National Park Service and US Army Corps of Engineers. |

The Confluence collaboration is working to secure Congressional designation of the Confluence as a National Heritage Area. This recognition will bring leadership and resources to guarantee the continuing growth and permanent success of this legacy project for our community. |
